One really good alternative is to use a disk caddy adapter like the Thermaltake BlackX ST0005U. It has an eSATA connector that speeds up the data transfer process tremendously. This is a must have if you're the type that frequently tears into systems or builds new ones. ..

As with the original BlacX, we can definitely recommend the Duet as it provides a quick and easy solution for people who have many drives sitting around who might want to swap them in and out when needed without having to shut down their PC, open the case, mount the hard drive and then fire it all back up. It all happens by simply slipping the hard drive into the dock and waiting for it to be recognized by OS. ..

I would recommend this dock to anyone that needs this convenience and expandability. It works especially well in backup and cross copying situations or if you need external ports available for quick testing and swapping capabilities ..

I would recommend the Thermaltake BlacX Duet to anyone looking for a dual HDD dock that is both USB and eSATA compatible. I feel that this docking station would be the perfect addition to any IT professionals desk or workbench and makes the perfect addition to any consumer who is wishing to do data backup to a normal SATA internal HDD ..

Q:  My system doesn’t recognize the drive through eSATA but does see it through USB.
A:  Please note that a restart of the computer with the enclosure powered on may be required to recognize the HDD through an eSATA connection. However, if your motherboard supports "hot swappable" eSATA connections then a restart will not be required.
